Meet the LAGOS officers for the 2020-2021 academic year
Jordan Barría PinedaPRESIDENT
Jordan is from Valdivia, Chile and he is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Computing and Information. His research aims to build information systems able to influence positives changes in online behavior, especially in educational environments. He enjoys swimming, jogging, drawing, and trading card games.
Sebastián Henao GarcíaVICE PRESIDENT
Sebastian is originally from Colombia and is pursuing a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. His goal is to contribute to expanding the organization’s outreach so many more students can benefit from the amazing community he has found in LAGOS! He is a story-teller, an innovator, and enjoys the outdoors, cooking and photography.
Marialexia is a second year PhD student in the Higher Education Management program in the School of Education. She is currently an Equity and Justice scholar, focusing on college access for minoritized communities and educational structure inequalities. She is a California native!
Ana Teresa FloresPROGRAMMING CHAIR
Ana is from Southern California and is working on a joint MSW/PhD in the School of Social Work. Her research interest is in delivering psychosocial interventions for schizophrenia to under-served communities and implementing cultural adaptations where necessary. She enjoys ceramics, making jewelry, and Pokemon.
Alberto Guzmán-ÁlvarezBUSINESS MANAGER
Alberto is a fourth year PhD student in the School of Education, where he focuses on quantitative methods and education policy. He has previous experience in student government, as the outgoing chair of the grants committee for the student government body of the School of Education.
Shekina Gonzalez-FerrerPUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER
Shekina is from Puerto Rico and currently a second-year Graduate student in the Program of Microbiology and Immunology in the School of Medicine. In her spare time she enjoys baking, watching baking shows, and helping her sister run iconicchica.com, which focuses on Mental Health, Poetry, and Life.
Romina KalmeijerOUTREACH OFFICER
Romina is in her second year pursuing a Master’s in Social Work. She is passionate about Spanish language/culture and issues related to the Latinx community within Pittsburgh and abroad. Romina loves crafting, drawing, photography, and social justice.
Juliana Monteiro BernardinoSUSTAINABILITY COORDINATOR
Juliana is originally from Brazil and is currently pursuing a Master’s in International Development with a focus on public policies to end social inequalities in Latin America and Africa. She is committed to leading LAGOS towards reducing our footprints and promoting a sustainable environment for us and for future generations.
Ruth GonzálezMEDIA CONTENT CREATOR
Ruth is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Applied Developmental Psychology in the School of Education. She likes to design and create original audiovisual content and she can’t wait to get out of quarantine and let her creativity go wild.
